Yellow-footed Tortoise

Chelonoidis denticulatus
(Linnaeus, 1766)
Madre Selva field station, Depto Loreto, Peru. January 13, 2011.

This juvenile Yellow-foot was brought to the Madre Selva field station by a young girl from a nearby village. Adult denticulata are occasionally found in the forest around the field station. They are eaten by locals and it’s always a shock to see them in the markets, trussed and ready for the cook pot.  Formerly in Geochelone.
