Siren intermedia nettingi
Goin, 1942
Union Co., Illinois. May 19, 2001
My first siren was found at night on Snake Road, after a day and a half of steady rain left large puddles in the low spots of the road. I’ve seen others since, most of them caught by dredging dip nets in shallow water and ditches. The swamps along Snake Road are full of them, and they are a favorite food item for mud snakes (Farancia abacura). The photos are of a siren found near Heron Pond in Johnson Co., Illinois.
