Western Green Jararaca

Bothrops bilineatus smaragdinus
Hoge, 1966
Depto Loreto, Peru. January 20th, 2011.

I had high hopes of seeing a Loro machaca (local name) but of course, no species is guaranteed when it comes to field herping, and these snakes are only occasionally encountered. On the 13th day of our trip, one of our guides spotted one high up in a tree and retrieved the snake for the group to photograph. Formerly in the genus Bothriopsis.

My Flickr album for this species is here.

HerpMapper records for this species are here.
