Clemmys guttata
(Schneider, 1792)
Ontario, Canada. May 20, 2017.
This large (for a Spottie) female was observed in shallow water along the edge of a lake. The exact locality and the circumstances regarding this find must remain vague, thanks to the legions of illegal poachers looking to collect and sell them. Like the US, Canada has a problem with poachers, and populations of spotted turtles and wood turtles (Actinemys insculpta) have been hit hard.
