Plains Blackhead Snake

Tantilla nigriceps
Kennicott, 1860
Otero Co., Colorado. July 13, 2007.

After a big rainstorm, I was cruising an asphalt road in the grasslands, and found a number of these little snakes drinking from the thin film of water left on the road. I secured one for photographs, and released it close to its capture point the next day.
