Northern Dusky Salamander

Desmognathus fuscus
(Rafinesque, 1820)
Sevier Co., Tennessee. May 30, 2000.

Coming back from herping in the Carolinas, we stopped for a road break, and for a few hours of salamandering in the Great Smoky Mountains. D. fuscus (‘fusky’) was one of the species our group found along a small mountain stream. The salamander pictured here was found in McDowell Co., North Carolina in 2017.
