Phyllomedusa bicolor
(Boddaert, 1772)
Santa Cruz field station, Depto Loreto, Peru. January 19, 2013.
One of the most incredible nights of frogging I’ve ever had included a half-dozen of these monsters, perched high in the trees close to a pond, and calling in the ladies with a bass, staccato “BOB!”. Of course, all examples of bicolor found thereafter are named Bob. The shots were achieved by standing on a large fallen tree, and extending my camera as high over my head as I could reach (thanks to a tilting viewscreen). This particular Bob was perched in the same spot, three nights running.
