Scinax garbei
(Miranda-Ribeiro, 1926)
Madre Selva field station, Depto Loreto, Peru. January 9th, 2011.
This aptly named treefrog was the first frog I saw in Peru, pictured as found, perched over a wet area just off the trail. I tracked it by its low, peeping call. Despite repeated searches on subsequent expeditions, this species piqued my interest, but I didn’t see another garbei until 2018.
