Florida Cottonmouth

Agkistrodon piscivorus conanti
(Gloyd, 1969)
Jackson Co., Florida. April 25, 2003

This snake turned up under a railroad tie along some tracks we were working, far from any water we could see. An upset moccasin that would not hold still or move into a defensive coil, making photography a difficult proposition.

NOTE: I have not followed the Agkistrodon synonomies of Burbrink & Guiher 2014, pending further studies making use of appropriate sample sizes.

My Flickr album for this species is here.
