Crested Toad

Rhinella margaritifera
(Laurenti, 1768)
Madre Selva field station, Depto Loreto, Peru. January 14, 2011.

An amazing group of toads – some have crests, some do not, and some have projections that look like wings sprputing from their heads. More than likely, this is a species complex that will get sorted out someday. This toad was spotted in the middle of the trail by one of our guides – I might have stepped on it, they blend in with the leaf litter so well.

My Flickr album for this species is here.
