Common Map Turtle

Graptemys geographica
(Le Sueur, 1817)
Crawford Co., Indiana. June 27th, 2008.

My first experience with these turtles was on a canoe trip on the Current River in the Missouri Ozarks, back in 1972. I’ve seen others since, but it was many years before I had both a camera and a geographica in hand. This moss-covered specimen turned up during a stream survey in southern Indiana.
