Clear-banded Coral Snake

Micrurus distans distans
(KENNICOTT 1860)
Alamos, Sonora, Mexico. August 21, 2011.

Snake! Stop!” The car was just out of the gates of the hotel when CJ shouted out. I slammed on the brakes, and he was out of the car in a flash, with me in close pursuit, and there it was – a coral snake, crossing the street right in the town of Alamos!  A cool snake, and my first Mexican elapid, but it was the most difficult snake I have ever tried to photograph. It simply would not stop moving under any circumstances.

My Flickr album for this species is here.
