Carvalho’s Rain Frog

Pristimantis carvalhoi
(Lutz, 1952)
Madre Selva field station, Depto Loreto, Peru. January 17, 2013.

Some pristimantids can be difficult to identify without getting the frog in hand and checking markings on the ventral surfaces and legs. Pristimantis carvalhoi has an elongated snout, a white venter with small dark spots, and an obscure tympanum. The groin features a pair of yellowish spots. The dorsum may feature a light scapular ‘W’. The iris is a dark bronze.
